Chinese New Year Celebration at Canberra Primary School
Canberra Primary School celebrated Chinese New Year with a vibrant series
of activities that provided students with meaningful and engaging learning
experiences.
In the lead-up to the celebration, students participated in recess activities organised
with the support of the Parent Support Group (PSG). Through hands-on activities
such as lion origami, crafting oranges, and exploring the “Culture on Wheels”,
students deepened their understanding of Chinese traditions in an interactive
way.

On the celebration day, students took part in classroom activities such
as designing lion dance
elements, tracing auspicious words, and creating festive crafts. These
experiences allowed
students to actively apply their learning in authentic contexts.
The highlight of the day was the concert programme, which featured a PSG-led dragon dance, student performances, a fashion show, and interactive stage games. The event created meaningful interactions between students, teachers, and PSG, strengthening school-community partnerships.

A whole-school activity, “Guess the Number of Fortune Cookies”,

Through these activities, students not only experienced the joy of the
festive, but also developed a deeper appreciation of Chinese culture, values,
and community spirit.
